The shortlist moved upstream — into the AI answer
Buyers still discover, shortlist and decide. What changed is the common information entry: they ask an AI first.
For twenty years the path to a purchase ran through search results. That path still exists — but a growing share of buyers now ask an AI the category question first, and treat the answer as the shortlist. The decision stages did not disappear. The information entry did.
Three stages, one common door
Call the stages Discover, Shortlist and Decide. AI now sits at all three: shaping perception, naming options, influencing judgment. Impact deepens stage by stage. If you never enter the shortlist, Decide never happens for you.
Retrieved, Cited, Recommended
Being found by an engine is not the same as being quoted, and neither is the same as being named as a worthy option. Besaid keeps the three layers apart — Retrieved, Cited, Recommended — because a single score that mixes them hides the gap you actually need to close.
What a GEO system does
Month by month: observe and diagnose where you stand, remediate the pages and sources engines trust, then verify that the answers moved. The pipeline outcome — inquiry to conversion — is downstream of those three layers.
